In America, 10 percent of 2- to 5-year-old children are overweight and more than 15 percent of those between 6 and 19 are overweight, with many more at risk of becoming part of the nearly 60 percent of American adults that are overweight. New parents are left wondering how to keep their child from becoming part of these harrowing statistics, without clearly knowing what the cause is or how to prevent the epidemic that has become "childhood obesity." While there are many factors that contribute to this growing problem, the largest and most fundamental factor is the hardest to change - the way we eat.
In BABY KNOWS BEST, Dr. Herbert I. Goldman writes about an area he has dedicated much of his 35-year career on: infant and childhood nutrition and the prevention of obesity. Citing the personal studies he created and carried out, as well as other compelling evidence, Dr. Goldman sheds light on one of the major causes of weight problems. By explaining his easy-to-follow, tested and proven method, he will teach parents how to create healthy eating patterns in their children to help them stave off weight problems, not only as children, but for life.
